ExTension & Recovery Yoga Video Clips

In my desire to share with you both the counter-intuitive nature of this approach to yoga and the its subtle power to create change, I've been experimenting with making videos. For me, making it continues to be a fun but challenging process.

I ask you to pay more attention to the unique message I share rather than the amateurish quality of my presentation. My videos may be viewed below using your computer's software or through the Internet on YouTube.

Enjoy!

Sam Dworkis

The exercises shown in these videos are deceitful. Do not be mislead by their simplicity for all three are powerful in their potential to create change.

Although I encourage you to share the material in my yoga website with friends, colleagues, and clients, it may not be used in websites where my books, ExTension Yoga or Recovery Yoga are sold unless you have my written permission.

Yoga VideoThe Standing Torso Stretch aka "The Wiggle & Waggle"

This first video is the "Standing Torso Stretch" aka, "The Wiggle and Waggle," and is in my opinion the one most important yoga exercise I personally practice and teach.

Although helpful for students of all ages, it is extremely important for chronically ill, injured, and aging people. The logic behind the "standing torso stretch" is explored throughout the first chapter of my website, The Mechanics of Yoga.

The full written description on how to do the "standing full torso stretch" can be found on page 105 in my book, Recovery Yoga, as well as in this website's Recovery Yoga Excerpts.

Yoga Video Gluteal Rolling

As with many Recovery and ExTension Yoga exercises, this innocuous-looking little exercise is in reality, amazingly powerful in its ability to reduce both groin tightness and back pain. Why? Because under the three gluteus muscles lie the deep six inner hip rotators. When tight, the deep six indirectly affects the psoas and iliopsoas and refers tightness to the groins thereby interfering with rotation of the femur; which in turn contributes to low-back tightness and reduces the ability to sit cross-legs.

VIDEO CLIP 3

Yoga VideoThe Shoulder Release
aka "Sam's Magic Rope Trick
"

The "Magic Rope Trick" is a playful, but effective exercise that reduces both stiffness and soreness in the shoulders, but only when appropriately practiced without pain or strain. I've taught it in seminars around the country and by request, have put it on the website.

Unlike what you see in the video, when you first begin to practice it, I encourage you to allow your belt or strap to hang loosely from your hands so that your belt or strap is about twice as long as your shoulders are wide. Then, as your shoulders begin to loosen up, you can begin the process of shortening the strap.
